That's it, that's all folks!  Thank you so much for being part of your child's learning this year and for all that you do to help them celebrate their wonderful, unique selves!

Looking ahead, class lists and teacher assignments for grade 6 will be posted on PowerSchool for you to log in and see two days before the beginning of school.  It has been a fabulous year and I wish you all the best for the summer.

Here is what is coming up for our last busy week of school!
 - Tonight a couple important items should be coming home : French duotangs and Portfolios.  Please take some time in advance of report cards the end of this week to take a look through your child's portfolio at all of the great learning that we have done together in grade five!!
 - Tuesday - to celebrate the end of our French and ELA classes Mme. Santerre's class and ours will be going for a walk and heading over to the ice cream bus downtown for treats.  Students are invited to bring money if they would like to buy something, or to bring their own treat to enjoy.
- Wednesday - Grade five finale party at the pool!  We will be walking over around 1:00 and heading back to the school for dismissal at the end of the day.  Students need to bring their own bag in the morning with their  towel, swimwear and anything else that they need.
- Thursday - LGMS year end BBQ.  Thank you SO MUCH to our parent council for supporting this great end of year event.
 - Friday 9:00 LGMS awards assembly.  Dismissal at noon.  Report cards available online.

Tomorrow is National Aboriginal Day!
Our grade fives will be heading downtown to take in the festivities around 9:30 and returning before lunch.  Please join us if you can  :)
Please expect to begin seeing school supplies coming home over the next week.  In an effort to make getting things home the last day easier some items will be trickling home as we finish using them.

There will be no more weekly homework assignments, so last night you should have seen the spelling and math weekly duotangs come home.  Expect also to see the very important portfolios make their way home the end of this week or beginning of next week.

What a wonderful Wetland experience that we had.
A few highlights from the students pond dipping: lots of leeches and shrimp with some caddisfly and dragonfly nymphs, as well as a few predacious diving beetle larva and whirligig beetles.  As well there were a number of killdeer, ducks, and a pair of loons in the pond today!  To see all of our pictures please follow the link to our Wetland Pictures.

Take a look at this video of an adaptation race we played today.  Each group had a different adaptation assigned which made it easier (or harder) to participate in this event :)

Tomorrow is Track and Field!

The track meet starts with a short welcome and general overview of the rules of the day at 10:45  in the center of the track.  Students should come prepared to stay outside for the whole day that means hat, sunscreen, food and lots of water.

This week's a busy one!  Take a look at the main things you need to know.

Tuesday: All library books to be returned to the library after lunch.
Wednesday: Track and field.  Runs from after first recess until the end of the day.
Thursday: Wetland field trip.  Students need a backpack with a bag lunch, appropriate clothing for all day outside (plus rain gear just in case), rubber boots and sunscreen/bug spray may be good ideas too.  Thank you to our 5 parent volunteers joining on this trip as well!!

Additional notes: There will be no math weekly assignment this week and the final reading record assignment was handed out today but won't be due back until Friday the 23rd (since we will be missing some of our daily reading times)

Finally - we have started our health topic of Body Sciences.  Today we talked about puberty in general and what changes happen to boys, girls and both.  There was not a hand out for this class but you may start getting more questions at home.  In the classroom we also have an anonymous question box where students can ask their questions.  I will address any relevant questions during a later health period.

Welcome to June!  Important dates for this week:

  • Wednesday book orders are due
  • Friday math weekly #12 is due
Most everyone has now started doing a little car building in class as well.  (You should receive your receipts for the car supplies that you purchased tonight)

Please remember that there are probably supplies that you have at home that can help such as: plastic lids for wheels, wooden BBQ skewers for axles, drinking straws, cardboard or coroplast, elastics...

A reminder also that students each need a shoebox or small reusable bag to keep their car body and car parts safe during building.
