LGMS salad day is here tomorrow (Friday)!  If your child wants to participate and enjoy some complimentary salad from our garden, please send them with an empty container and a fork tomorrow along with the rest of their lunch.

In science next week we will be building a few devices to help measure things like wind direction and speed.  We could use a few supplies to help our building process.  If you have some at home that you could send in it would be appreciated:  plastic straws, wood skewers, string, plastic or styrofoam cups, pen lids (yes, only the lids), stick pins and squares of heavy cardboard for bases (about 20 cm square).

Thanks for any supplies that you can provide.

Tonight you should see the first spelling list coming home.  Students had a pre-test today to help them see where they are making errors, and to help focus their studying.  Their homework this week will be studying their ten words, plus the assignment #1 that goes with it.

Other important updates:

  • All magazine and picture orders are dues back at the school tomorrow morning please
  • LGMS Terry Fox run will be happening Thursday at 10:30
  • The next set of reading records have been handed out.  Students have until next Wednesday, Oct.4th  to complete the 5 sections (they will have class time each day but they can also do one at night if they have read for over ten minutes)

It may have been a bit chilly but what a great afternoon we had today!  Thanks very much to Christian Wright who showed us around the garden and gave us lots of great information about the special adaptations that different plants have (to grow in Canmore, to make use of different levels of sunlight and moisture, and even how they can help other plants to thrive).  The samples and taste testing of herbs and plants was a big highlight too!

Tonight you should see two things coming home in agendas.  Your child's reading record which is due tomorrow (please take a look at how detailed their answers are and then sign to show you've seen and discussed it),  and a questionnaire about seating in the classroom for maximum on-task time.  Please discuss and go through the questionnaire tonight.  It will be used as one more piece of information when I consider our next seating plan.

Finally, one last reminder that Reading records are due tomorrow and math weekly #1 is due Friday (though many smart cookies have already turned it in).

Thanks to all of you fabulous parents who attend to agendas and notes each evening as we transition into the routines that will continue throughout the year.

Monday, 18 September 2017

Happy Monday to everyone!  Coming home tonight you should find, as always, an agenda of the week's due dates (thank you so much to all of the parents that sign this each evening), a purple pizza order form and the first homework assignment (math weekly #1).

Important dates to take note of this week:
Tues: the next time to hand in magazine orders (not completed online) is tomorrow

Wednesday: we will have our first fire drill of the year and also we will be getting a garden tour from Mr. Christian Wright

Thurs:  the first reading records are due.  These reading reflections go towards showing comprehension of student choice books. In class we've discussed that specific and detailed answers help to show greater understanding.  Thanks to all of the parents that have already seen and discussed this assignment with their child.

Fri: noon dismissal.  Math weekly #1 is due (but it can be handed in earlier once finished)

Thank you very much to all of the diligent families that have been not only supporting your children as they start a new school year, but reading, signing, and returning all kinds of forms to the school so promptly!

I appreciate very much your help and I apologize to all of my grade five families that tried to find technology forms that never were included in the info. packages that you received.  The confusion was mine, I hadn't realized that only the grade four students, as new students to LGMS, were filing those in.

It's been a great first week, I'm super proud of all of the students in our class and I know that we're going to have a great year together!

Welcome to a fabulous new year!

It was a great first day in our 4/5 class with many more to come!

Our focus this week will be on developing our work habits and expectations together, as well as organizing our supplies and getting to know each other a little better.  Once we begin to work more on the curriculum I will also post updates and assignment deadlines here on our blog.

Thank you to everyone that was able to drop by this morning and say hi,  I look forward to working with you and your children this year!  Please drop by to see me after school, or send me an email if you have any questions now, or as the year progresses.
