 shrugUpdated update...

Apparently I sent you the update last week a day too early and as we got closer to our return to in class learning some additional safety precautions were put into place by CRPS Friday afternoon to help keep everyone safe and healthy.  Hopefully by now you have read the email sent out by both LGMS and CRPS.

We will be taking things one week at a time but for now these changes mean that:

- our gymnastics field trip Monday is postponed (if you did complete the gymnastics waiver online though, thank you, that should be added to their files so you won't have to do another)

- medical masks are to be worn (over the mouth and nose) at all times in the school even when seated or in the gym.  Students can remove them briefly for eating at their desk only or when outside and practicing distancing.

- we are also requesting that families notify the school directly of any positive COVID cases and that close contacts (even those without symptoms) not attend school during the isolation time.

If your child is isolating at home

1.  Please let me know and also be sure to call in to the office (if you know it will be multiple days you can call once and tell them that)

2.  Have your child check Google Classroom both in the morning (after 9:00) and again in the afternoon (after 1:00) for any new assignments or resources that have been posted.  * Make sure they TURN IN their work when it is complete*

3.  Daily reading as well as daily math practice (adding and subtracting decimal numbers, practicing multiplication and division flashcards) should be completed in addition to any other assignments

Update on return to school, Monday Jan.10th

As you have heard, our government has decided to return to in class learning this coming Monday.  At school there has been additional cleaning, and like in December, student desks are spread out as much as possible.

Our physical space

Due to the size of our class this year this leaves little space for walkways or movement spaces in the classroom (this includes our bike which has been removed for desk space).  If your child finds it challenging to focus with limited movement, please consider adding some exercise time in the morning before school, discussing using recesses to play running games, and/or sending them with a silent personal fidget to be kept in their pocket or desk.

Health and Safety for everyone

Please take a few minutes before Monday to talk again with your child about the importance of keeping their desk and items in their own space, using lockers for all coats and other items, and wearing a clean, well fitted mask at all times unless facing forward in their own desk.

You will have heard that the government plans to provide N95 masks for students at staff - that process of delivery is planned to begin Monday but we have no additional information on what the timeline will be specifically for our school.  We have had a number of students misplace or forget masks this year, please be sure that your child has spare masks and that these are medical grade or at least multiple cloth layers that fit securely around the ears or head (please no Buffs or scarves).

Some Happy News!

We get to continue learning together and we are still able to go to gymnastics together!  Our gymnastic time starts Monday right after lunch.  The field trip form was sent out ahead of Christmas break, but if your child was not in school, or did not return it they will need to bring in their copy Monday morning to be able to join us.  All students also have to have a new online form completed for the Alberta Gymnastics Federation.  Please complete this as soon as possible by following the link below:

Alberta Gymnastics Federation - release of liability

LGMS field trip form (sent home before Christmas - if not already returned must be printed out and returned Monday morning)

Jan.3

Happy New Year to all of our Smart Cookies and their families!

As you would have heard, both through the Education Minister's announcement as well as through the email from CRPS, our winter break for students has been extended until January 10th as schools and divisions across Alberta work to make a plan in light of new COVID trends.

We had all been crossing our fingers that there would be no more disruptions to our learning together but, if nothing else, this pandemic has taught us to be flexible!  I have no additional information to share with you at this time since I have no more information myself but we'll move forward together :)

Please watch for new emails directly from CRPS and LGMS which will be arriving over the course of this week to outline expectation moving forward.

have a happy and healthy new year
