 Week of May 21

Monday: No School

Tuesday: Spelling comes home

Wednesday: BVPP - all day Plants field trip - Please ensure that your child has good hiking shoes or boots and layers for the weather.  It looks like rain so rain jackets are a must along with warm layers.  Please also send your child with gloves, a warm hat and maybe even a garbage bag to use for covering their backpack or to wear as a waterproof skirt. A spare set of dry clothes to change in to would also be useful even if they just stay at the school.

There are outhouses near where we will start, have lunch and end our trip but there will be no shelter or water available on site and we will be outside all day.  Bag lunches and plenty of water are also required.

* please no umbrellas (we'll be on some narrow trails)*

Thursday:

Friday (full day):  Spelling due

Coming next week - We are completing our Peoples of Alberta projects and students have signed up for their presentation date.  They will be responsible for sharing the information from their slides and having an artifact to show or share with the class as well.

Please check in with your child about their project and what they need to do to be ready.  All of the work needs to be completed by the end of this week (if students are not done they will be expected to complete this for homework).

Week of May 13

I hope that everyone had a good Mother's Day weekend and enjoyed the sunshine and maybe even had a chance to see the Northern Lights.

This week we will be completing Rube Goldberg devices.  All of these machines will need to be taken home either Wednesday or Thursday.  Many creations are quite bulky so if your child normally bikes or takes the bus please make arrangements to pick them up either Wednesday or Thursday.

Monday: Math Weekly goes home

We'll be beginning large number division this week.  Without recall of multiplication skills this can be quite challenging for students.  Working at home for a few minutes each evening with your child to help them to gain confidence and improve their speed at multiplication facts, as well as looking at the steps to divide three digit numbers by numbers up to 9 would be very helpful.   Here's a video we'll be watching in class to help you at home too: https://youtu.be/LGqBQrUYua4?si=Q44AGPdJEA1nszrR

Tuesday:Rube Goldberg device testing and assessment

WednesdayRube Goldberg device testing and assessment.   Rube Goldberg Devices go home

Thursday: Math weekly #13 due  All Rube Goldberg Devices need to be picked up

Friday - No School for students - Teacher Professional Learning

Thursday:

Friday (full day):  Spelling #13 due

Talent show starts at 1:45.  If your child is part of the LGMS talent show this Friday, you are welcome to join us :)

Finally, it's come to our attention at LGMS that several students in our grade have been visiting the candy store after school.  There has also been a noticeable increase in students arriving at school eating candy as well.  We talk about nutritious food for our bodies and brains in Health and I'm concerned about these less healthy habits.  I know every family has different expectations about time after school but please have a talk with your child about your own family's rules/expectations.  If your child bikes or walks home, do you expect them to come straight home or are visits to stores acceptable (and if so, which stores and how often? Does your child know your expectations?).

If students take the bus, they are NOT ALLOWED to leave school property after school to visit to the candy store (or any other reason) before their bus arrives.   Supervision takes place around the bus loop where students are expected to be waiting.
