Wednesday: Locker and desk cleaning - expect to see most of the rest of the school supplies coming home.   Also our Smart cookies will be baking their own cookies in the school kitchen in the morning (I will be providing the basic supplies but students are welcome to bring extra cookie add ins), followed by the movie "Into the Wild" during the afternoon which is the story of Brian, the character from our class novel Hatchet.

Thursday: LGMS BBQ at noon, grade 4 swimming in the afternoon.

Friday:  Awards assembly 9:00-10:00.  School is done at noon.  Have a great summer!!

June 17-21 Updates

Monday: We've begun clearing out some supplies and work that we no longer need in class in an effort to stop the giant pile of things all arriving the last day of school.  Please help your child to sort through items and send them back with an empty backpack to continue refilling this week :)
 - Thanks to Christian at our LGMS garden some students chose to bring home young organic  basil plants after our visit today.  These are ready for the garden and will be super tasty once they have had a bit more time to grow.

Tuesday: Grade 4 iRide

Wednesday:

Thursday: Final Reading records of the year are due. And all Social - Towns of Alberta assignments (along with their model) need to be completed and ready to present starting Friday.
 - Grade 4 iRide period 1
 - Grade 5 special iRide make up time will be from 1:00-2:30.  Please be sure that your child has a bike and helmet (or can borrow one) to participate.  And a HUGE thank you to Mme. Amirault for helping to find a way to include our grade 5s in this awesome program.

Friday:  Final Spelling is due (since it is the last one, students can choose from any of the 8 assignments for their spelling homework)

Math finals are complete - and a huge round of applause goes out to all of the hard working students for their studying.  Every student has shown improvement since we began in September! Also a big thank you to all of the amazing parent study partners that helped your child to feel confident and prepared!

All students received their final test and the outcomes sheet that goes with it.  Please take time tonight to look through it with your child to celebrate their successes and to identify areas for continued practice.

During our LGMS award assembly 1 student in each class is honored with a Citizenship Award.  This award goes to a student that demonstrates our great traits here at Lawrence Grassi, including things like respect, kindness and  helpfulness.
In our classroom we nominated people last week.  Though at different times this year I have seen these traits demonstrated in each and every one of the students in our classroom, these four students really stand apart and their peers chose to recognize them for it.  On the final day of school we will be honoring one LGMS Citizen per classroom, but today we honored these 4 fabulous students!

Week of June 10th

Monday: Please return field trip forms ASAP and don't forget the math Final on Thursday.  Keep studying!

  • Also, very important - If you know that your family will be travelling or not attending any part of June please let me know in writing right away.  We need to be able to provide accurate student counts to the swimming pool and I need to make arrangements for students to bring home all of their supplies and clean out their lockers and desks ahead of time.
Tuesday: iRide - all students need a bike and helmet at school please

Wednesday: Please remember that I am still looking for parent volunteers for our field trip to Cave and Basin on June 25th.  As well as any parents that would like to swim in the pool with their kids on June 27th

Thursday: Math Final Exam
iRide - all students need a bike and helmet at school please

Friday: Math weekly (the last one of the year) due.  Half day for students.

Writer's Workshop - information for students involved in this club:
Dear parents and students,
Please note that the evening Publishing Party for students who took part in the Writers Workshop has been cancelled.
The participation level was lower this year and didn't warrant the cost of hosting a party at Arts Place.
Ruth Kerr, the generous author who ran the club on her own time, sends her best wishes and want to congratulate everyone who completed their writing project this year.
Students' printed books will be available at the LGMS library next year.

A request please:

As we move towards the end of the year it is still very important that students have all of the necessary supplies with them in the classroom every day.  Please check with your child and see if there is anything they need  to get them through June.  (I had 10 pencils to "borrow" on my desk Monday, the last of them disappeared first period this morning)

Students need each day:

  • agendas
  • pencils, erasers, etc...
  • safe running shoes for gym (not sandals or slip-ons)
  • hats and jacket for gym too (most gym classes are outside this time of year)
And please don't forget that next week we begin iRide so everyone needs both a bike and a helmet at school each Tuesday and Thursday.

What an awesome day at Bow Valley Provincial Park with our interpreter and amazing parent volunteers!  Below is a slide show of pictures from our day.  This will be playing in a loop on our blog, but since it's too big of a file for the forwarding program it probably won't come through on your email.

So instead, just follow the link to take a look at it live on the blog!

Monday, 3 June 2019

June has started with some wonderful weather for us all, I hope that you were able to enjoy some of it with your family this past weekend!

Monday: New spelling words handed out.

Tuesday: Please remember that next Thursday all students will have their math final for the year.  A practice final to help with studying has already been sent home, and is also posted on our blog.  Please help your child to do their best by helping them to practice and study a little bit each night.  Night before "cramming" is rarely successful and doesn't help students to retain these important skills.

Wednesday: Bow Valley Plants field trip.  We will be leaving at 8:45 so please help to ensure that students are in the classroom and on time with everything that they will need.  More then one water bottle is strongly recommended since there is nowhere to get water on site.
Thank you to all parent volunteers.  Even if you are driving, please check in with me in the morning so I can give you your student group (and so I know that you are here :)

Thursday: Reading Records are due

Friday: Full day Friday.
Spelling is due.
Mountain Maker Madness is happening in the morning!

i Ride starts next week:  All students need a functional bike and helmet at school to participate in these hands on sessions.
