Kind and Caring

Look at all of our kind and caring coupons filled in this week!  Each coupon represents one kind or caring thing some wonderful person did :)

Here are the beautiful completed Regional Animals Interpretive Signs that students we have been working on in Social.  (If you don't see your child's sign, please check in with them about the reason that their work is incomplete).

I know the slide show moves too fast to read the information - so if you would like to take a closer look, follow the link to see the full set.

I hope you have all had a chance to celebrate all of the great things that your child has been learning this year with them as you look through their portfolio together.  These very important binders should have come home yesterday (Wednesday) so if you haven't seen it yet, please check in with your child.  These are meant to support your understanding of how your child is doing this year and to give you a peak into all that they have learned so far!

When you are finished, please send them back to the classroom so that we can keep gathering evidence during the second part of the year :)

Also - Our Chemistry Study Notes which students have been hard at work on in the classroom are now complete.  You can access them by following the link, or through Google Classroom to help support your child as they study.  We will be doing our final lab early next week and the unit test will take place Thursday morning Feb.4th.

 Week of Jan. 25

Monday:  Crystals should be coming home tonight if they didn't make it home last week.

❤Also - we have begun Kind and Caring nominations in the classroom.  Students can get a nomination slip and fill it it any time someone in the class has done something kind or caring.  At the end of the week  we'll draw some names and their sweetness will be rewarded with a sweet treat :)

So please talk to your child about what small kind gestures they can incorporate into their days at school so help everyone smile!

Tuesday:  As we approach the end of our Chemistry unit please be on the lookout for a Chemistry Unit  study guide to help with at home studying (Follow the link for the online version).  We will also be spending some time next week creating study notes together as we did in our earlier unit.  Right now I have the test planned for next Thursday  (Feb.4) but depending on our labs it might get pushed back by a couple of days.

Wednesday:  Portfolios come home.  Please take the time to look through these with your child in advance of report cards getting posted Friday and don't forget that many of our Google Classroom assignments are also marked right online so be sure to check those out too.  Please plan to return portfolios  to school after the weekend.

Thursday:

Friday (full day):  Math weekly #7 due.  Social - Regional animals interpretive signs due for presenting.

Wednesday, 20 January 2021

Tomorrow (Thursday) French presentation will be happening after recess.  Please help your child to remember to dress wearing the colour of pants and shirts they will say they are wearing.

If you'd like to see how the first practices went in class, ask your child to log onto Google Classroom and follow the link to the videos to listen in.  (Be kind - speaking another language is tough and everyone is trying their best :)

 Week of Jan 18

Monday:  Spelling words and duotangs for completing the assignments should be coming home tonight.  Please remember that each week there is a short assignment (this week - write all ten words spelled correctly, then choose 5 words to write a definition for in your own words) as well as studying the ten words.

Tuesday: We will be beginning a research assignment in Social about unique animals found in Canada.  The assignment: Animal Interpretive Signs can be found in Google Classroom.  This is our last project related to our regions of Canada unit.  We've spent some time in class talking about reputable sites for information and students will be expected to keep track of the links they use (please note that Google is a search engine, not the source of the information so we've been working in class to follow the links to the actual site the information is from)

Wednesday: Library

Thursday:  Ready to present French introductions that we've been practicing, Reading Records are due.

Friday (Full day): Spelling test (assignments are due completed).  Crystals from Science go home.

Monday, 11 January 2021

 Week of: Jan 11

Monday: Math weekly #6 goes home Logging opinion speeches being presented in class.

Tuesday:   Logging opinion speeches being presented in class (anyone that didn't go Monday)

After a break from Reading Records while students worked on their longer Novel Review assignments before Christmas we will be getting back into this routine.  These 5 questions about reading go with fiction chapter books.  Students will have time to complete them during our daily reading periods but please help your child to be sure they have a novel at a reading level that is appropriate to them in class each day.  This can be from home or from the classroom or school library.

Before signing your child Reading Record (RR) and returning it next week, please look over them yourselves with an eye for details and answers that are specific to the story. This is one way that I assess your child on reading comprehension of their own reading choices so details and specific answers are the most important thing.

Wednesday: Library exchange day.  Multiplication timed facts will be completed during math.  This will be the second time that we have done these this year.  They will be available to see in portfolios when these come home later this month.

Thursday:  A glass jar that is clean and has its label removed is needed for science (we'll be growing crystals)

Friday (half day): Math weekly #6 is due
