Thank you to everyone that has already returned their portfolios.  I hope that you feel like you have a better understanding of your child's learning and growth after looking through them and at report cards.  *  If you need to keep your child's portfolio at home longer, please send me a quick email * 

Monday:  This week's homework is Spelling list and assignment #8

Tuesday:  

Wednesday: New Reading Record handed out - this will be completed during reading blocks in class but will come home for a signature and so that you can see the effort and detail your child is adding to their answers.  Completed and signed RRs are due Feb.13

Thursday:

Friday(full day): Spelling assignment due first thing in the morning.   

Flashlight Friday - students are invited to bring a comfort item, and a special drink this time to go along with their books and flashlight

   Week of January 23: 

Monday:  This week's homework is math weekly # 8

Tuesday:  Outdoor Leadership afternoon - We are very excited to have an afternoon of outdoor activities with our new Outdoor Education teacher Ms. Jen Tweedle!  

Please make sure that your child has appropriate clothing to be outside all afternoon.  This includes boots, ski pants, coat, hat, mitts...  I'll get some pictures to post so you can take a look at the fun things we do.  

Wednesday:  Math assessment (MIPI) - this is an assessment that all of the grade 4 students will be doing to gauge student understanding in a variety of grade level math questions.  

Thursday: Portfolios come home

Friday (full day):  Report Cards are available online  Math weekly questions are due first thing in the morning.

 Week of Jan 16: 

* A recently read book (from home or from the school) continue to be needed in the classroom to complete book talks which will be due Thursday *

Monday:  This week's homework is Spelling #7.  Please remember that homework involves both a short two step spelling assignment, as well as studying and practicing the unknown words.  

Tuesday:  Social region presentations in front of the class

- Science supplies for our lab needed: 3+ items (pieces should be about the size of your palm) for testing on these characteristics:  Transparent, translucent, opaque.  Examples of items might be: a plastic lid, tinfoil or fabric, a small prism...

Wednesday: Math - second try at timed multiplication facts

Thursday: Book talks ready to present

Friday (half day): Spelling assignments are due first thing in the morning when we do our test.

Report cards: A reminder that report cards will be finalized and available online at the end of this month through Parent Portal.  Though you might see marks in the document at this time these continue to be works in progress and may change based on work still to be completed.  * Your Child's portfolio will go home a few days before report cards so that you can see the evidence of their work that goes towards the grades they have earned.

Take a look at the fabulous job our Smart Cookies did on their reflection challenge lab in science today!  Getting the angle of the mirrors to properly reflect the light beam to highlight the action figure was hard, but with perseverance great things happen!

Welcome back and a Happy 2023!  I hope that you all found time to connect with the important people in your life and to also get outside once our cold snap finally ended :)

A few very important things your child will need this week:

• A book that they have recently read at their level (to complete a book talk about as well as some connection/comparisons work).  This can come from home or the school but needs to be with then in class all week.  
• A small flashlight, small figurine and their shoe box from before Christmas.  These need to be here Tuesday for Science

Monday:  This week's homework is math weekly #7 and is due Friday.

Tuesday:  - Book (recently read and at your child's reading level) needed for first thing in the morning. --Science supplies for our lab needed: small figurine, flashlight and shoe box

Wednesday: * Keep practicing math facts at home.  Near the end of January students will get a second try at their timed math facts before report cards :)

Thursday: Science supplies needed for our lab : flashlight, 3 small pieces (no bigger than the palm of your hand) of items to test for transparent, translucent and opaque

Friday (full day): Math weekly questions are due first thing in the morning.
