This week we have been discussing the importance of Truth and Reconciliation in advance of the Sept. 30th date. Today we designed our own mini orange shirts to display in our classroom window. Please take a look the next time you are near LGMS.

Week of Sept 25
Truth and Reconciliation Day is September 30 - this week we will be having some honest discussions, reading some books and thinking about some difficult topics including touching on residential schools and why our knowledge and understanding of Canada's history are so important. These can be heavy topics but we will be working through them together. If you feel you are also able to talk about this with your child to help support the importance of this national day of remembering, please do. If you have questions, please reach out.

Monday: Coming home tonight is the second of the two type of homework we will be doing in grade 4 - this is called Math Weekly and is made of 5 questions related to number understanding. Students are welcome to complete this with family support and they can use any strategy to get their answer (calculators are not a strategy though).
In the classroom we have a "Muy Importante" booklet filled with tools that can help us in math. You can find an online version on my website on the Math tab if it will be helpful for you and your child at home.
- Science request - we are learning about decomposing and we'll be watching mold grow on different items in our classroom for science. Your child signed up to bring a small amount (think spoonful or small slice) of an item they thought you would have at home. Please put it in a Ziploc bag (if you don't have one I will have some in the class) and send it in for Tuesday. THANK YOU!
Tuesday: Guest presenters from the high school will be here for a short presentation about recycling
Wednesday: Francis Cooke Landfill field trip (10:00-12:15) I have one lovely Nana joining us, if any other family members with RCMP checks on file would like to come too, please let me know.
Thursday:
Friday (full day):
- Wear an orange shirt - in support of Truth and Reconciliation this weekend everyone is being asked to wear an orange shirt if at all possible. We'll also be hanging out own orange shirts in the classroom window if you are able to walk past to see them.
- Math weekly assignment is due handed in first block (but it can be handed in any time during the week once it is finished)

Week of Sept. 18
Monday: 2 very important items will be coming home in your child's agenda tonight
-1- Spelling duotangs. In school everyone has completed a pre-test of their words. They have the correct spelling of their words glued in and their homework this week is to study for their test Friday AND to complete the brain activity homework assignment on the List 1 Assignment 1 white page in their duotang.
-2- Field trip forms - Your child will be bringing home 2 field trip permission forms. They require your child's name, the date and a parent signature on each page. Please return these completed by this Thursday.
* We are looking for parent volunteers to join us during each activity. Volunteers require an RCMP check on file at the school. Please let me know if you are interested :)
Tuesday: Start sending in your Twoonies or other change for Terry for our Terry Fox Run Friday. Additional donations can be made online from our LGMS website or at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/31301
Wednesday:
Thursday: Field trip forms due back please
Friday (half day): Spelling assignment due first thing in the morning when we complete our spelling test
Terry Fox Run - please help your child to be prepared by talking to them about this activity and sending them with appropriate footwear and clothing to run, jog or walk quickly in a safe and respectful manner when we participate with our House Team - Grotto.

Week of Sept.11
Please remember to update and submit all of your online documents through parent portal. With Terry Fox coming up and field trips starting soon all students need to have walking permission forms completed to be able to join us off school grounds.
Monday: We did our first quick write of the school year. Ask your child what a quick write is and how it went for them :)
Tuesday: Spelling word leveling test - We will have 3 levels of spelling words this year. From common word families up to multi syllable, less common words. Based on the initial test students will start in a level but they may move up or down depending on need. I may change their level, or you as parents, or your child themselves may request to change a level.
Next week we will begin our weekly homework with spelling. Your child will bring their words home to study and have a short brain assignment to complete as well.
Photo packages come home :)
Wednesday:
