Please see the letter below from our very own, amazing Mr.D and his Right From the Start Team.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We have visited several classrooms again this week, embedding the MIndUP Core Practice into our sessions, which is part of an evidence-based program which is rooted in neuroscience, supporting Social Emotional Literacy. The Core Practice involves using a chime and deep breathing. Chimes have been provided to all classrooms along with a script to use consistency.

More information about MindUP: https://mindup.org

We have (re) introduced "Bucket Filling" within LGMS, tailoring our activities and discussions to the needs and developmental levels of middle school students.

Reflective questions for students:

"What does a 'terrific' (positive/supportive/inclusive) classroom look, feel and sound like in grade _____?"

"What does 'Bucket Filling' look, feel and sound like in grade _____?"

Students and teachers have been invited to share their responses on post-it notes. "Student Voice" will inform school-wide positive culture and reinforcement of empathy, kindness and healthy relationships.

Please contact Deren or Adrienne, LGMS Success Coaches, via our email addresses with any questions, concerns or feedback you may have.

 Week of September 19:

Thank you to everyone that has already returned the signed copies of our two field trip forms (sent home last week).  If you haven't done this yet, please get them sent in this week.

*Also a big thank you to anyone that has reached out to volunteer to join our class at the Canmore waste management centre and the Francis Cooke landfill.

Monday:  This week's homework is spelling.  I run three spelling groups in class and last Friday we completed a pretest to help me to find the best fit for your child.  Spelling groups are fluid though and can change as the year goes on based on what I see, or what you or your child feel about the word lists.

Your child should bring their spelling duotang home.  In it you will find this week's assignment.  Students will also have a copy of their word list.  If they have misplaced it you can access it from the LA page of my website (scroll down to spelling).  Please help to guide your child's word practice and also to check in that they are doing their homework according to the instructions (there are always 2 steps to complete).

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday: Picture day!

Friday: Spelling assignment due and test -first thing in the morning.

Friday is also our Terry Fox run.  Families are encouraged to Bring a Toonie for Terry, or to donate online using this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/5102

Hello all of you lovely parents!

In our classroom we have 2 upcoming field trips towards the end of this month and the beginning of next month related to our Science unit called Waste in our World.  We would LOVE to have you join us if possible.

If you are interested in joining us for one of these trips (more details to come) or any other trip this year at LGMS, please let me know so that I can provide you with the volunteer cover letter to have this done at no cost.  I will need the full name of the parent or guardian volunteering for me to complete it for you, then there are some additional forms that you can access from the RCMP website to print off (or in person at the station) that you will need to submit as well.

This process can take any amount of time from a day to 3 weeks to complete so if possible, please let me know early this year and then you will be good for the full school year.  (If you have other children at our school, please let me know what grade they are in so I can include that on the school part of the form as well).

When you have your results from the RCMP please email them to both myself and the office.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night during our Open house from 6:30-7:30 as well.

  Week of Sept.12:

Congratulations to our School Senator Miles!  Miles was voted by his peers to be our representative on our LGMS school council and I know he will do a fabulous job of giving our class ideas and opinions a voice.  This is a new role this year for one student from each class and involves a commitment to joining the monthly School Senate meeting with Ms.Proudfoot to discuss student related issues.

* A big congratulations also to both Caitlyn and Summer who also put their names forward and were willing to take on this important role.  All three students did a great job of explaining their interest and how they could represent our class. I know each one would have done a great job!!!

Monday:  This week's homework is math weekly.  Your child should bring home their Math Weekly homework folder with a page of 5 math questions for them to complete.  These are due back by Friday morning at the latest but can of course come in sooner:)   Students are encouraged to use any strategy to show their work and families are encouraged to check in and support their child as they begin developing important time management and work habits for positive growth.

Tuesday:  Classroom Book order information comes home.

Wednesday:

Thursday: LGMS open house 6:30-7:30  Please stop by with your child at any point during the hour to tour our classroom, see some of our early projects and of course ask questions! It's SO great to be able to share this together in school so please try to come and join us.

Friday: Math weekly questions are due first thing in the morning.

  Week of: September 6th

I hope that you all had a wonderful long weekend in the sunshine to cap off what has been a great summer! As we start this second week in school we will be beginning some of our routines in the classroom including daily reading.  Students are requested to have a reading book (at their reading level) with them at their desk all of the the time.  This can be from our classroom or school library, or from home.

Tuesday:  No weekly homework yet this week but expect a homework assignment to come home next Monday.

* Beginning chromebooks.  We will be logging on for the first time today and checking out the links on my website.  Students will have their login information and password taped into their daily agenda so that you can also access their links from home.

Wednesday: Students should have a reading book at school

Thursday:

Friday: Fire evacuation drill in the morning.
