Week of Feb.24

Monday:   We've been working with some great, interesting strategies for multiplying larger numbers.  (Gr.4s go up to numbers in the hundreds multiplied by single digits, and Gr.5s go up to double by double digits).
We've been doing the traditional "stacked" style as well as ones called: window/grid, rainbow, split it and the class favorite - steal the zero.  Please check in with your child and ask them to show you a couple of strategies that work best for them.

Tuesday:

Wednesday: Pink shirt day - please encourage your child to wear a pink shirt (or any other pink) to help show support for anti-bullying choices

Thursday:

Friday: Spelling list #9, and the assignment this week is student's choice.  They can pick any of the 8 assignment choices for this week.

Week of Feb.10

Due to our winter carnival this Friday, followed by our break for teacher's convention, there will be no homework assignment or RR this week, just fairy tale stories to complete.  However there are a number of students that still did not complete last week's assignment and RR, so please check in with your child to be sure they are caught up.

Monday: Final gymnastics class.  To see all of our pictures, please follow this link to the folder.
 * In agendas tonight your child should have: a class photo (we seem to be one short - please make sure you only have one copy) , their story plan and rough copy (finished) and their gymnastics report card

Tuesday:  Stories should be finished being edited and the good copies should be started online in Google Classroom.  Both story assignment pages and story plans (graphic organizers) need to be turned in with the final good copy.

Wednesday: Final call for glass jars for crystal making tomorrow

Thursday: Fairy tale stories are due finished.  The good copies are being typed in Google Classroom so students can also work to finish their typing at home.
 * Crystal making in Science.

Friday: Valentine's Day.  If your child plans to bring Valentine cards (this is optional and up to each family, but please either send none, or send enough for the whole class).  We have 19 students in total. Here is a list of all of our students.

Winter Carnival all afternoon.  Most of these stations are outside so students need appropriate clothing for the weather.  Also a reusable mug is being requested for hot chocolate.
* One more volunteer is requested for the afternoon to help in our classroom braiding center, please let me know if you can help out*

LGMS winter Canival is this coming Friday February 14th.

Activities will take place outside for the entire afternoon so appropriate clothing is important and students are asked to bring a labelled, reusable mug for hot chocolate.

***Parent Volunteers are needed to help with stations.  We are looking for 2 parents to help in our classroom for the braiding station (knowing how to braid is helpful but not required since the kids will be doing it).

Please send me an email at tina.blackwell@crps.ca if you can help!

Story writing update: We have been working since last Monday writing our own twisted fairy tales.  Students should all have their rough copy completed by this Friday.

Please check in with your child about their progress so far.

Last call for book orders.  There were 2 different magazines of choices this time to pick from either or both.  If you are ordering online, please do it tonight.  Paper orders with a cheque can come to school with your child tomorrow morning.  I will be placing any final orders then.

Thank you for helping us to build our classroom library and encouraging your child to read!

Week of Feb. 3 - 7

Today was our second last gymnastics day (next week will be our final time).  Please follow this link to the folder of pictures so far.  Or take a look at the slide show below or on the blog.

Monday: Math weekly #8 should be coming home.  If you haven't yet seen and signed your child's Reading Record they should also have that tonight to complete.

Also, a request for glass jars again (this time it will be for crystal making in class next week).  Students need a clean, clear jar (preferably with a lid).  Medium sized works best (larger than a baby food jar, maximum size would be a spaghetti sauce jar)

Tuesday: Reading Records are due - handed in with a parent signature.

Wednesday: Book orders are due first thing Thursday morning, so if you want to order online, please put your order in tonight.

Thursday: Book orders due

Friday (half day): Math weekly #8 due
