Week of Oct. 31

Happy Halloween everyone! With Halloween falling on a Monday and a busy week ahead of us that includes Parent-teacher-student interviews, followed by a short week for Remembrance Day we will be taking a short break from our weekly homework assignments.  Please expect to see spelling coming home again next on Monday, Nov.14th.

A reminder that LGMS works at being a healthy school.  This means that items like pop are not welcome on campus and that sugary treats should be kept to a minimum.  We understand that delicious treats come with trick or treating, but please help your child to be present and best able to learn by balancing their sweets with healthy food (one handful of treats maximum per day balanced with a healthy lunch please).

Monday:  No homework this week.  Your child will likely also come home with their Halloween gift from me, 2 containers of sculpting sand, which we used today to create fun creatures that we will be writing about.

Tuesday:

Interview etiquette - please respect everyone’s time by arriving for the beginning of your interview and being mindful of leaving before or at the end of your 15 minutes of booked time.  Your child’s portfolio will be available for you to take home after your interview time to look through more closely if you would like.

Wednesday:  Parent-teacher-student interviews 5:00-8:00

Thursday:  Parent-teacher-student interviews 4:00-7:00

Friday: No school for students. Parent-teacher-student interviews 8:30-12:00 and teacher professional development in the afternoon.

 GrandPal kick off celebration!

We talked, we played games, we built connections and we even decorated and ate cookies!    What an awesome time we had this morning.  Please take a look at the slideshow and if you see any photos you would like a closer look at please navigate to your child's Google Classroom and head to the Classwork tab, then Photos.

  Week of Oct. 24:

** A very important reminder that our classroom is a NUT FREE class.  This is for the safety of a student in our room and includes all nuts including things like peanut butter or nuts in granola bars***

Monday (Monster Monday):  This week's homework is math weekly #4, due first thing Friday morning

Tuesday (Top Hat Tuesday):  Please be sure that you have signed up for a parent-teacher-student interview time.  You have until Friday to do so.

Wednesday (Onesie Wednesday):  LA - Characterization Paragraph writing due

Thursday (Theater Thursday):   Grand Pals visit - please let me know as soon as possible if your child will not be in school Thursday morning so that we can let their GrandPal know not to expect them.

An extra special guest that will be joining our GrandPal event is Danny, a lab puppy who is in training to be a guide dog for the visually impaired.  His trainer is one of our wonderful community GrandPals and though Danny will be mainly "on duty" and wearing his vest (which means students need to ignore him and let him do his job), towards the end of our visit his trainer will take off his vest so he can be off duty.  At that time those kids that are interested can also greet Danny.

Friday (Funky Friday) Full day:  Math weekly questions are due first thing in the morning.

Take a look at our field trip to the Waste Management site in Canmore today.  Great weather, great information (and some not-so great smells:)

Thank you to our fabulous parent volunteers that joined us too for this informative outing.   * If you see any photos that you would like to keep of your child, please sign in to their Google Classroom for the link to the picture folder.

Monday, 3 October 2022

  Week of Spetember 3:

Monday:  This week's homework is spelling - list #2

We will be Mold Farming for science this week.  Please check with your child tonight about what small item they chose to collect and bring for school Tuesday.  * A small (finger sized/ couple of tablespoons worth amount) is needed in a zipped baggie.  I will have ziploc bags at school in case you don't have them)

Tuesday:

Wednesday: 10:30-12:15 Waste Management Center - walking field trip.

Thursday:

Friday (half day): Spelling assignment #2 due first thing in the morning.

* Please check in with your child that they have all of their work completed.  We once again had a number of students without their math weekly assignment completed last week.  When students do not have their work caught up they will be missing out on other classroom events or activities until they have all of their work done.

Thank you for your help supporting your child on this at home!
