Week of May 26 

As we move towards the end of the grade 5 school year.  Please help to support your child to come to school prepared and with adequate sleep so that they are ready for learning -  because we aren't done yet! With 5 weeks to go there will be lots of fun activities, but still lots of work to complete too.   

-Upcoming items - Patterns for marks, Science artifact project and our upcoming growth and development (sexual health) unit 

Monday: Spelling #14   Final book orders of the year - I'm sending these a bit early so that even with mail slowdowns they arrive before school is out - so if your child would benefit from some summer reading, please stock up and support our school and classroom at the same time :)

Tuesday:

Wednesday: All story rough copies should be completed.  Editing will begin in class Thursday and good  copies are expected to be typed and complete early next week.  

*Library - books for renewal or return should be back in the morning

Gymnastics in the afternoons May 14 &28, June 4,11 & 18 - students need to be wearing clothing that is flexible - longer hair needs to be tied back, hoodies, socks, hats and other accessories will need to be removed

Thursday:  Patterns for marks

Science - beginning artifact building

Friday (half day, dismissal at 12:00):  Spelling list 14 with Assignment due  Book orders due by 2:00

Week of May 20: 

We will be beginning a story writing project this week based on taking a traditional fairy tale and changing the perspective. It'll be a great time to incorporate some favorite fairy tales or story reading at home for inspiration! 

In math we are moving on to our patterns unit which focuses on creating and understanding patterns of different types and how they grow and change as well as how they can be shown.

Monday: No School

Tuesday: Math Weekly #14 comes home

Thursday:

Friday (full day):  Math weekly # 14 due

LGMS talent show & RFTS poster contest prize day with pizza and a movie.  Wow!

Today was our final day this year with our grade 2 buddy class.  Our grade 5 leaders and their grade 2 partner's worked fabulously together on an Ozobot dance challenge.  There's a slideshow of some pictures below and if you'd like to see the videos of some of the teams dance moves, have your child log in to Google Classroom so see everything!


Week of May 5  - In math we will be continuing on our Algebra unit this week with the for marks assignment early next week.

Think your child might love gymnastics? Here's some community information you may be interested in :)

For the first time in a number of years Canmore Illusions Gymnastics is providing a boys gymnastics class so boys can participate locally instead of having to leave the Bow Valley for this opportunity.  

There are only a few spots are left! It's on Thursdays for May & June and costs $160. 




The Great Egg-periment!   I heard great scientific understanding being shared and discussed while everyone worked through the steps with their eggs. Discovering displaced volume, changes in density and finding neutral buoyancy using eggs and water.  What happens as the water gets saltier?
