Today we had the pleasure of participating in games and activities created by Mme. Gamache's wonderful students.  Here's some thoughts from our class.

Satsuki: The one about the seasons was a lot of fun.  They gave us clues to help us too.  Some of the groups helped us to remember with a slide show at the beginning for the words.

Keenan: Everyone was nice!

Aleah: Our group got a chance to challenge the grade 8s with questions too which was really fun.

Tucker: Math jeopardy was fun :)

Lucas: I liked how when you chose a card you said the day, in English and French, and they helped us out to make it easy and fun.

Georgia: I liked trying to figure out the colour puzzle.

Kinsley: They were all super creative!

A: I liked the month game.

Theo: The one about seasons was funny and everyone was trying.  They were helping us with how to say it.  It was cool that they used some of their time to help us to learn more French.

Toni: I liked the game where you matched the colours to the word.

Ruby: They were all really funny, and though we felt shy at first, as we went on we felt less shy.  They all made us feel very welcome!

Hannes: One of the grade eights helped me by whispering the colour in my ear :)

Morris: The math Jeopardy game was really well put together and fun.

We will also be creating a Halloween craft on Thursday.

Monday: Students should be bringing their school photos home in their agenda tonight.

They should also have their spelling duotang.  Over the course of this week the  homework expectation is that students complete their spelling assignment in their Spelling duotang on the page provided (the explanation and the two steps are at the top of the page) and practice their 10 words.   On Friday they need to be prepared to hand in their work and do their test.

Talent show starts at 1:45.  If your child is part of the LGMS talent show this Friday, you are welcome to join us :)

Finally, it's come to our attention at LGMS that several students in our grade have been visiting the candy store after school.  There has also been a noticeable increase in students arriving at school eating candy as well.  We talk about nutritious food for our bodies and brains in Health and I'm concerned about these less healthy habits.  I know every family has different expectations about time after school but please have a talk with your child about your own family's rules/expectations.  If your child bikes or walks home, do you expect them to come straight home or are visits to stores acceptable (and if so, which stores and how often? Does your child know your expectations?).

If students take the bus, they are NOT ALLOWED to leave school property after school to visit to the candy store (or any other reason) before their bus arrives.   Supervision takes place around the bus loop where students are expected to be waiting.

Two exciting pieces of news to share

First - Our posters that we made to support the Czech Republic for the Nordic World Cup this weekend are up on display at our partner, Beamers.

These student created works of art have been shared between the two locations, so the next time you need a quick coffee, stop in and be sure to look at the posters displayed :)  Also, if you have time this weekend to take the bus up to the Nordic Center and cheer on our local athletes and our sponsored athletes, it's always a great event to watch!

Second - we are very lucky to have four sessions of collaboration through ArtsPlace and local artist, Tyler McClaron, working with our Right From the Start team here at LGMS.   Here is the overview:  Over the course of four weekly sessions, students in each grade 4 classroom will be exploring a sense of self, emotional awareness and teamwork through theatre games and dramatic workshop activities led by Tyler McClaron and co-facilitated with LGMS RFTS Success Coach Adrienne Lawlor, thanks to a grant from the Pauw Foundation and ArtsPlace.

Tyler holds a Degree in Theatre and a BEd from the University of Ottawa, and currently lives and works in the Bow Valley as a performance artist. He calls these exploratory activities “theatre without drama,” and uses them to create a space where students can learn about themselves and each other together. The activities draw out theatrical skills and open a door to conversations where more learning can occur”

Please take a few minutes to check in with your child each night and help to support them to both complete their work and be ready for the next school day.  If they have used up some of their school supplies please make a purchase in town, from Amazon or on a trip into the city to ensure that they have everything they need from pencils to duotangs because we still have a half year of learning together.
